Here is a brief about the hospital and the training program.

About the hospital:

Established in 1982, Akashdeep Netralay is one of the best eye hospitals in the region providing state of art eye care. The Hospital functions 6 days a week. Sunday being a holiday. Surgeries are posted 5 days a week. Plenty of common surgeries like Cataract/Pterygium/etc are performed every OT day. Time consuming surgeries like retina, oculoplasty, etc are posted on separate days. The hospital’s private wing has 30 beds and has an auditorium for lectures, library and accommodation for residents/fellows. In addition to this, we have a charity wing which mainly does cataract surgeries and organises camps.

About the Program:

The training shall give you exposure to different aspects of ophthalmology and different subspecialities. You can choose to be more focussed on one particular sub-speciality or opt to get an overview of comprehensive ophthalmology. The training shall cover the following:

1) Phaco-refractive surgeries (Phaco,ICL, Toric, LRI, etc)

2) Phaco in difficult cases (Small pupil, hard cataracts, floppy iris, etc)

3) Management of Complications of Cataract Surgery (PCR, Dropped Nucleus, etc)

4) SFIOL, Iris Claw

5) Manual SICS in cases where Phaco isn’t advisable

6) Pterygium with grafting

7) Pediatric surgeries like Squint, Ptosis, ritleng stent, etc

8) Ocular Oncology – OSSN, Eyelid tumors, Orbit tumors

9) Medical, Surgical & Radiotherapy Management for Thyroid Eye Disease

10) Retina Surgeries (RD, Vitrectomy, Silicone Oil, etc)

11) Oculoplasty Surgeries – Orbit reconstruction, Blepharoplasty, etc

12) DCR – Endonasal and External

13) Common Blocks – Peri-bulbar, Retrobulbar, Facial, Sub-tenons, etc

14) Corneal Topography & C3R

15) Tips and Tricks of IOL power calculation using latest formulae using biometer

16) Keratoplasty

17) OT/Instrument Sterilisation & Hospital Management (If interested)

18) OPD diagnostic tools & procedures like: Perimetry, Green/YAG Laser, OCT, etc

Initially you will work as an Observer. If you are well-versed and/or grasp the techniques quickly then you will be given hands-on in each of the above mentioned headings.

Accommodation:

You will be given accommodation, if opted. It will be a separate private room on the 4th floor of the hospital building with a kitchenette and an attached bathroom. Food can be arranged at additional cost.  

The training period is flexible. It will depend on how much exposure you need.  It also depends on your previous experience.
